Vienna to the Netherlands 8

We arrived in Deventer late this afternoon after riding about 1540 km from Vienna. End of the cycling trip.

We will spend the next three weeks in the Netherlands. We will do a little more travel by bicycle to visit friends, but there is always sadness at the end of a journey, glad to have done it, but after settling into the rhythm of cycling every day, it is sad to reach the end.

The last two days have been good. We were in mostly agricultural areas, cool cloudy weather, perfect for cycling. Yesterday we crossed the border into Holland and spent the night near the small town of Millingen on the Rhine. We intended to stay in Millingen, but it was full; a B and B on a farm just outside the town was our spot for the night.

Today we crossed the Rhine on a small ferry and cycled along the IJssel river to Deventer, an old city of about 100,000 people in the east of the Netherlands. It is home to Inge’s mother and Inge’s younger brother and his family.

  1. Understandably it must feel sad when your journey is over. Your blogging gets better and better, so you must keep on traveling, even if it’s just for the entertainment of your friends. I specially enjoyed the photographs. The one that really stands apart for me is “Dutch landscape”, strange, because I normally find Dutch landscapes quite boring.
    See you
    Melle.
